Online communication

Communication: is the activity of conveying meaningful information. The ways communication is used are becoming very essential around the world today such as the use of mobile Phone, email, instance message and social websites. Communication requires a sender and an intended recipient, although the receiver needs to be present or aware of the senders intent to communicate at the time of communication, thus communication can occur across vast distance in times and space. I personally use mobile phones when am in an emergency.  It’s also easier to use mobiles phone as people often reply quickly to mobile messages than emails. Expect from that, my family use skype, to contact friend back in Nigeria. It’s cheaper and we can get to see them through their live webcam.  http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/home. Skype is not only used at home. You can also get skype for business. You can Collaborate, communicate and work smarter with colleagues, customers and clients by putting Skype to work in your business. You can also get skype on you mobile phone. You must be on laptop or computers to be on skype. You can also get skype on the TV, make free widescreen video calls from the comfort of your living room.

Disadvantages of using skype.
If the internet connection is slow, and you can make calls, in this case, the sound may be a bit jaggy or you may have awkward delays in transmission

Advantages of using skype

It’s excellent for calling international

If you don’t have skype number, it doesn’t matter where in the world you are, you can still get hold of that person. If you are out, the calls will be forwarded to your phone.

You can check the prices of calls to different destinations on the Skype home page - http://www.skype.com/intl/en/ Calls to other Skype users anywhere in the world are free.

It’s unlikely to get viruses through skype. You don’t have to receive any files from people who you don’t trust. You can refuse to accept any file sent to you over the chat programme. It's worth, however, looking at the privacy settings in the Skype software to restrict who is allowed to call you - unless you want to be pestered by strangers from all over the world at all hours.

You don’t have to be on the computer or laptop to access skype. You can get in your mobile, Television etc

Advantages of online communication

The speed of delivery is faster and saves time. For instance you wouldn’t have to read a whole dozen of books to get information’s, you can easily type the words and search it.

The ability to send to multiple recipients. This is very useful in a school organisation such as if the school conveys a survey, rather than posting it to each parent, they can email to all parents at once.

Easy to stay in contact with you families in other countries or distance from you.

It’s made a major elimination of language barrier in the fact that people speaking different languages can connect socialise or trade via the internet with the now use of a language translator

Disadvantages

A significant disadvantage is that older generation finds it difficult to catch up with the ever changing and numerous technologies available today.

In some communication, there is no substitute face-to-face meeting. (Non verbal communication is lost).

Online communication is now used in creating riots such as use of twitter and face book etc .The event that started the riot in North Africa was through the use of face book.
